Abstract

Information communication technologies have contributed to the spread and exchange of news and information among people, the most famous of which is social networking. About 71% of internet users use social networks. This study aims to highlight the role of social networks in disseminating awareness of environmental diseases. A descriptive study conducted at Public Health Faculty, random sample was selected. The study found that majority of participants uses social networks for 3 or more hours a day, and Facebook is most site used. 53.2% of participants did electronic activity about environmental sanitation. Most participants believe that environmental pollution causes children’s health problems such as flu and lice. Moreover, most of the participants believed that social media networks contributed well to their awareness of the importance of preserving the environment. They did good dialogues and discussions on social networks. Thus, we need to develop awareness and behavior of the importance of environmental through social networks.
